OUR

Story

meet our founder, kalvin Bridgewater.

DSSC was born out of a need for community. The vision was inspired by Eve Akins, a Dallas doula and her community of young mothers that get together on the weekends and uplift each other.

After the birth of my daughter, I started noticing lots of changes in my wife. She was crying a lot, constantly doubting herself, not wanting to be social or even touched. We were so busy getting her help that I didn't even notice how much I was changing myself. My health was declining and my weight went from 200 to 265 from stress eating - food became my only comfort from what I now know was postpartum depression.

We both changed and we didn't realize how much because we were so busy with a newborn.

I wanted to create a place where dads of young children could get together and build each other up. Just knowing that you are not alone in your thoughts or experiences is enough to soothe a weary soul sometimes.

We believe that dads need and deserve community too. The fatherhood journey is not one to be made alone. Thank you for being here.
